On crisp, clean and bright cold mornings, I catch the drifting scent of wood burning in fireplaces and I must take a moment to stop and savor the feelings of warmth and joy it evokes. The wafting smell of oak burning tantalizes my nose and creates a sense of nostalgia from days gone by; those wonderful days from my wondrous childhood. This morning was such a morning when it led me to follow a glimpse down memory lane. It quickly transported me to memories of cold winter evenings and weekends spent with my grandparents on their farm. No TV or telephones available. Nights spent with all lights out. All gathered around and basking in the orange glow of a warm crackling fire within the old fireplace. My Grandpa smoking his pipe and Grandma telling stories of old. Grandpa tickling our tummies with his beard .... and hearing the laughter ringing all about. Then it was off to bed with prayers quickly said in the chill of the night, and into feather beds, nestled cozily between thick soft down quilts, the giggling of children before drifting off to a restful nights dreams....Yes these are the moments in our lives worth remembering!
